About
Truth is, I hate fashion. I hate how it lures you in, thinning your purse and leaving you with feelings of languidity and a distinct lack of satisfaction. But, alas, fashion is art, and I love art. Fashion is beautiful and always changing and always not without its idiosyncracities. Some people get it, others don’t, and I’m somewhere hanging inbetween.
Fashion, like many things, resembles the rather controversial product that is Marmite. You either love a trend or you don’t, and this is furthermore reflected in one’s personal choices and tastes in clothing.
I, personally, can think of many a trend I have disliked over the years. Boyfriend jeans, neon, just-below-the-knee-length-leggings and Ugg boots are just a handful of cringe-inducing trends I would very much like to take a match to. On the other hand, the ruffles, floral prints, leather and studs of this current Autumn/Winter season could quite easily be embraced by me whilst eighty and sagging with my once perky breasts resting on my kneecaps.
I couldn’t tell you why I have a penchance for a bit of fashion passion. Hell, if you asked me who my favourite designer was I’d smile and answer through gritted teeth something along the lines of “er… all of them?”, like one of those airheads off America’s Next Top Model. The truth is I don’t display much sycophancy toward any particular designer. They are all wonderful from the Greats that are Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander Mcqueen, to the rising stars that are Michael Kors and Henry Holland. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with loving them all.
You see my real passion, dear readers, lies not with the high end designer labels (though it would be nice to live in Jimmy Choos and Burberry trench coats), but rather with the delight that is the high street. I like to think I can spot a good bargain or a heavily-discounted runway knock off from a mile away, and buying such utter exciting pieces often makes me feel naughty and a bit crook-like and excited. This, ladies, is what results in shopaholism, a dangerous and oftentimes near-fatal disease that has yet to have any known cure.
I like to think that the high street can prove to be just as good as the high-end designer labels, and take great delight in watching the lovely Gok Wan put many a great poncy personal shopper to shame with his bargains. (Gok’s Fashion Fix if you’re not with me – best fashion programme out there).
Exploring the high street is a hobby I take great pride in sharing with others – hence the creation of this blog, Pixelated Blonde – and I really am very pleased that current technologies have given me the opportunity to share my fashionistical views with the rest of the world. Please, dear readers, if I haven’t scared you off already, feel free to let me know your thoughts and opinions on this site, my writing, and your views on the absolute wonder that is F-A-S-H-I-O-N. Oh, that word looks so pretty when hyphenated.
